Symbolism & Meaning of July's Birthstone
Throughout history, rubies have been connected with strength and thought to be connected to the human body. Warriors would favor rubies, believing these precious stones would protect the wearer, increase strength and even calm anger.
A symbol of youthful energy, this gemstone has been called the 'King of Precious Stones'.
Wearing the birthstone of your birthday month is often considered good luck. Need more excuses to shop for rubies? Ruby is also traditionally given for the 15th and 40th wedding anniversaries.

Natural vs. Synthetic Rubies
Like most naturally occurring gemstones, natural rubies are mined from the earth, usually from places like Myanmar (formerly Burma), Kenya, Tanzania, & Thailand.
All natural rubies will have inclusions like mineral inclusions (also called needles) or color variations. While some are visible to the naked eye, others will need a microscope to spot them. These inclusions are unique as no two rubies will have the same distribution of them.
While natural rubies will vary in color and may have uneven tone and intensity, a fine ruby is typically a pure, vibrant red to slightly purplish red.
Synthetic or lab-created rubies have the same chemical, physical, and optical properties, but are grown in a laboratory. Synthetic rubies are produced scientifically in a controlled environment using a combination of extreme heat and mineral-rich solutions to create the perfect environment to stimulate crystal growth.
Because synthetic rubies can be produced with an exact formula to produce a specific look, you'll find synthetic rubies feature a consistent color tone and intensity and will have a nearly flawless appearance (free from most inclusions).
Synthetic rubies are typically more affordable.
