Unlike unique eras of history, antique refers to any jewellery which are more than 100 years old, so you’ll see many eras fall into the category of antique jewelry including Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian and Art Nouveau.
While the style of antique pieces has held its popularity, we’ll often see reproductions of iconic styles. In order to date a piece, we will not just consider the style of a piece and which era that suggests, but we will also look for stamps like hallmarks or makers marks, and consider clues like the materials and craftsmanship methods that can help indicate the time period it was made.
