One Birthstone, All the Colours

The word ‘Sapphire’ is derived from the Greek word, sappheiros which means ‘blue stone’. This precious gemstone is known for their true blue, but can come in a dazzling rainbow of colours as well!

While the term Sapphire does generally refers to the blue gemstone, look for beautiful pink sapphires, purple sapphires, orange sapphires and more! The only shade you won’t find a sapphire in is red! That’s because Sapphires are made of the mineral corundum. Red corundum gemstones are classified as rubies!

These gemstones are extremely durable and long lasting, coming in at a 9/10 on the Mohs hardness scale.

Our September Birthstone Collection features mostly classic blues... Shop all shades of Sapphires here!

Symbolism & Meaning
of September's Birthstone

A symbol of loyalty, faithfulness & trust, the Sapphire is rooted in tradition and symbolism in many cultures.

Long believed to be the ‘stone of wisdom’, the Sapphire has been believed to protect from evil and sickness, liberating from mental tension or depression and bringing serenity and peace of mind.  Throughout history, royals and clergy wore Sapphires both for their symbolism for heaven and wisdom.

Wearing the birthstone of your birthday month is often considered good luck. Need more excuses to shop for Sapphires? Sapphires are also gifted to commemorate the 5th and 45th wedding anniversary.
